Baby Daze: A Postpartum Peer Community

  • Kith + Kin 3060 West Jefferson Street Philadelphia, PA, 19121 United States (map)

Baby Daze is a thoughtful community for new parents to connect, learn, listen and share. This is a safe space to ask questions, share resources, talk about experiences, and create community. This group is facilitated by doulas with years of experience in birth, postpartum, childbirth education, and parenting. Baby Daze will be in a semi-structured open forum, where parents can lead the conversation, or have the doulas guide conversation with topics relevant to the postpartum experience. While we acknowledge postpartum is forever, this group is specifically tailored for parents who have an infant that is 6 months or younger.

+ free, please register in advance so we know who to expect :)

Jen Hinds M.Ed (She/Her)

My journey into all things pregnancy, babies, birth, and sexuality started back in 2010 while completing my Bachelors degree in Child Development and Family Studies. I had always loved the wonder of babies developing and learning the world, and yet my own wonder was cracked wide open after watching a documentary about pregnancy, labor and birth. The idea of becoming a doula some day was in the back of my mind for years to come. After completing my undergraduate degree I was the Lead Teacher at a childcare center working with 1-2 year olds but knew my journey wouldn’t end there. I took the leap to move to Philadelphia to receive my Masters of Education in Human Sexuality.

While in graduate school, I was a full time nanny for a newborn and 2 year old. My nanny family quickly became my second family while I watched the kids grow up and I also grew close with the family. Through this time, I was able to support the parents through their postpartum journey, while watching the infant and toddler develop, grow, and rapidly learn about the world around them. It was truly the most incredible experience. Now 8 years later, my nanny kids and parents are still a huge part of my life and I truly consider them family.

After graduate school, I had the honor of working with survivors of domestic violence, LGBTQ+ youth, and training professionals across all sectors. With this experience, I bring a trauma informed lens into all I do. Throughout my work as an advocate, educator, and trainer, empowerment and education have been the foundation of what I hope to give to my clients.

As a childbirth educator and doula, I always strive to leave my clients feeling supported, cared for, and empowered by giving evidence based information, a listening ear, and non-judgemental support. Whether it’s helping new parents get some rest during postpartum, answering those “is this normal?” questions, or helping someone prepare their birth plan, you deserve to look back at these memories with joy, peace, and self-empowerment.

A little bit about me: I am from Michigan, but currently I live in Philadelphia with my partner Jameson and our adorable dog Laney. You may even hear my Michigander accent come out once and awhile! When I’m not supporting families and facilitating education, I love to go bowling, do puzzles, play video & board games, workout, dance, and enjoy the amazing food and drinks of Philadelphia.
